As floats, fire engines, football players, and other fired up Indians fans line Oak Street on Friday for the 2011 Homecoming Parade, the man people will see first will be one who has initiated many firsts in Dodge County and for whom the honor of Grand Marshal is well deserved.Trifonio Infante (T.I.) Papel, the Grand Marshal of the 2011 Dodge County Homecoming Parade, was born in Palapa, Northern Samar in the Philippines in 1942, but for years he has called Dodge County home and has served it as such.
A graduate of and teacher for the University of Eastern Philippines, Papel left the Philippines in 1968 for the ?promises of a new land and opportunities.? He completed his master?s degree in 1975 at Georgia Southwestern College, and in 1970 began his career at Dodge County High School. While working as an agricultural teacher and advisor for the Future Farmers of America (FFA), Papel continued his own formal education in agriculture through the University of Georgia.
Papel?s long history of commitment to educational leadership includes service to the Dodge Elementary PTO, the DCHS Faculty Advisory Committee, the Dodge County Association of Education, Georgia Association of Education legislative committee, the Young Farmer Program, and the Adult Education Committee for Heart of Georgia Technical College. Even after his retirement from DCHS, Papel taught agriscience at Dodge County Middle School. It was during this period that he obtained a charter for the middle school FFA chapter.
