BELFAST, Northern Ireland (AP) ? One minute you're being whisked through the busy Belfast shipyard where the Titanic is being built. The next you're contemplating, amid a chilly piped-in breeze and lights mimicking darkened waters, the horror of freezing to death in the North Atlantic.

In between, Belfast's impressive new tourist attraction ? the 100-million pound ($160 million, ?120 million) Titanic Belfast visitor center ? offers a loving portrait of the excitement, ambition and opulence surrounding the doomed trans-Atlantic liner.

The Associated Press received a sneak preview of Titanic Belfast before its Saturday opening.

With 100,000 tickets already sold, Belfast is betting it will deliver a lasting tonic of tourism to the conflict-scarred city. A three-week festival featuring talks, walks and seven Titanic-themed stage shows ? including "Titanic The Musical" ? also begins Saturday to mark the 100th anniversary of the ship's launching.

Any visitor's first impression will be of center's stunning exterior: four jutting prows of the ship, lined in silver steel paneling, six stories high.

The Belfast Titanic marketing director, Claire Bradshaw, said the aim was to create an icon that people would come to associate with Belfast ? like the Eiffel Tower for Paris or the Statue of Liberty for New York.

The center sits beside the Belfast Lough dockside where the 46,329-ton vessel was built from 1909 to 1911 and set sail for her sea trials on April 2, 1912. Titanic began her fateful maiden voyage from the English port of Southampton eight days later, striking an iceberg just before midnight April 14 and sinking within hours with the loss of 1,514 lives.

A roller coaster-like ride takes visitors, up to six per carriage, up and down three floors of a re-creation of the Harland & Wolff shipyards that made the ship for Liverpool's White Star Line. No, there's no thrills or spills, just a panoramic tour suggesting the scale of the hull and the energy of the dock workers, all of them video projections of actors in period costumes. Those aboard can hear the commentary in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian or Chinese.

Next, visitors see a 4-minute CGI tour (computer-generated imagery) of the finished Titanic, rising deck by deck, from engine room to the famed first-class cabin staircase made famous in James Cameron's 1997 epic movie "Titanic." In the same room are recreations of first, second and third-class cabins, again with video projections of fictional passengers going into their bunks or getting ready for dinner.

There's no skimping on historical detail for true maritime and Titanic junkies. Every available wall is plastered, in logical chronology, with details about every phase of construction, every firm and engineering speciality involved, and every part described from the ship's four 24-foot-wide (7.3-meter-wide) funnels to its six onboard pianos.

The ship's voyage to Southampton, then to its other European ports of call in Cherbourg, France, and Queenstown, Ireland, are detailed in turn: The numbers and notables who boarded, their stories and tales of excitement about the voyage to New York ahead.

An entire wall is given over to a reprint of the final surviving photograph taken of Titanic on April 11, 1912, as she sailed away from Queenstown, the County Cork port today renamed Cobh.

Around the next corner, Titanic Belfast plunges into the disaster. A series of panels reprints the confused wireless messages among ships as Titanic appeals, minute by minute, for help from other vessels. The room is deliberately chilly as light projections create an image of dark lapping waters underfoot.

"What is the matter with you?" asks the Frankfurt at 12:34 a.m. after the Titanic hit the iceberg at 11:40 p.m.

"Cannot last much longer," the Titanic tells its sister ship, the Olympic, nearly an hour later.

"We are rushing to you," says the Baltic at 1:37 a.m.

Eight minutes later, the Titanic issues its final call to another ship, the Carpathia: "Come as quickly as possible old man: The engine room is filling up to the boilers."

After that the ship's calls fade with its dying electrical power into simple pleas for "CQ," code for "calling all ships."

In the next section, visitors are invited to explore the stories of survivors and the final words of those who perished, most impressively by using interactive touch screens that link to family photos, diaries and related newspaper articles. The role of Halifax, Nova Scotia, in receiving 209 bodies buried in the town's Protestant, Catholic and Jewish cemeteries is detailed.

Down a stairwell with a wall filled with ghost-white life preservers, visitors can hear and read testimony from the British and American inquests into how the disaster happened. Or they can explore one of several slick touch-screen databases of every passenger and crew member indexed by name, age, sex, nationality, job, cabin class, port of embarkation ? and whether they perished or survived.

More touch screens on this room offer light brain-teasing relief as visitors are asked to separate fact from fiction in a true-or-false format.

Spoiler alert ? here's some tips that could improve your score:

Did the lookouts have no binoculars? Yes.

Did people with tickets fail to board? Yes.

Did the Titanic nearly collide with another vessel in Southampton? Yes.

Did Cameron base Leonardo DiCaprio's character Jack Dawson on a real passenger? You will have to answer that one yourself.

Dell PartnerDirect Introduces Cloud Services & Solutions Certification

ROUND ROCK, Texas?(BUSINESS WIRE)?Dell announced today a Cloud Services & Solutions Certification for PartnerDirect channel partners that will enable them to provide cloud services & solutions to customers based on both Dell technology and their own technology services.

?Dell is also making it easy for partners to demonstrate their infrastructure-related skills by accepting their membership in channel programs of recognized vendors in technology areas of security, networking and virtualization?

Today, many organizations are living with complex, overgrown computing platforms that are underutilized, take up valuable data center floor space, consume large amounts of power and cooling resources, and are not easy to manage.

?Organizations, of all sizes, are looking to implement cloud computing solutions to align efficiency and deliver business results. We have created a certification practice area with choice and flexibility that will solidify partners? value to the end customer. We invested the time and resources to fully understand the cloud solutions our partners need to provide in the market,? said Bob Skelley, executive director, Dell Global Certified Partner Program & Channel.

This new certification, available now in North America, in Europe 12 April and soon worldwide, is the result of many months of thoughtful collaboration with Dell?s partners and industry analysts to ensure it met the needs of many different types of cloud computing offerings, without over complication.

?Dell has continued to listen to us over the course of our partnership and the creation of this certification program. They took the time to understand our concerns as a global cloud provider and find a way to go to market together that strengthens both of our businesses and adds value to our customers,? said Dante Orsini, vice president business development, iland.

?Dell is also making it easy for partners to demonstrate their infrastructure-related skills by accepting their membership in channel programs of recognized vendors in technology areas of security, networking and virtualization,? said Anurag Agrawal, CEO, Techaisle.

Recent research by Dell Cloud Business Applications and Techaisle* showed that customers are looking for a trusted IT partner who has evaluated the right cloud applications for their businesses. Dell understands that sometimes that partner might be a value added reseller, and therefore has created this new certification.

?As a company that provides multiple cloud computing solutions, including Cloud Continuity, Replication, Secure Archive, and Backup, with Dell technology, we?re happy to see Dell recognizing that their channel partner needs vary. Dell has created multiple pillars to meet those needs that strategically align with our own cloud service offerings, enabling us to provide greater value to our customers and prospects alike,? said David Menendes, director of Business Development & Sales, Cloud and Hosted Services, VeriStor Systems, Inc.

The Cloud Services & Solutions Certification is comprised of three primary pillars in providing cloud services and solutions:

  • Cloud Builder ? The Partner that operates as a Cloud Builder will offer all the necessary services to design and develop a cloud infrastructure for their customers.
  • Cloud Provider ? A Cloud Provider will operate a cloud networking operating center (NOC) enabled with Dell technology to provide cloud services to their customers. These include: Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) or Software as a Service (SaaS).
  • Cloud Service Enabler ? A Cloud Service Enabler acts as an aggregator or broker identifying, securing and integrating the appropriate set of cloud technologies and services from multiple sources and operates the resulting cloud for their customers through a set of managed services.

In addition to receiving Certified (Preferred or Premier) Partner level pricing and existing Preferred or Premier Partner benefits, partners who provide or wish to provide cloud services and solutions to their customers will receive additional benefits such as:

  • Preferred access to Dell?s current and future cloud services and solution offers
  • Attractive financing options to provide alternative acquisition options
  • Participation in cloud-focused marketing campaigns and access to co-Marketing funds
  • Partner-to-Partner Eco-System: Representation as a Certified Cloud Services & Solutions provider in the Find-A-Partner tool
  • Engagement by Dell account teams for co-selling/joint opportunities through the Find-A-Partner tool

Nadal withdraws at Key Biscayne with knee injury

(AP) ? Rafael Nadal's knee trouble has sidelined him again, and he hopes for a quick recovery to avoid missing any of the upcoming clay-court season.

Nadal withdrew hours before the start of his semifinal Friday at the Sony Ericsson Open because of a left knee injury that bothered him in recent matches.

With his withdrawal, 2009 champion Andy Murray advanced to Sunday's final. He'll play the winner of Friday night's match between top-ranked Novak Djokovic and No. 21-seeded Juan Monaco.

Nadal said his knee has been getting worse and extensive treatment Thursday failed to help. He said he'll see a doctor soon and is optimistic he'll be out only briefly.

"It looks like it's nothing really different than happened a few times in the past," he said. "Hopefully with a few days off and with the right treatment, I will be in the right conditions to start to practice on the clay. I know what to do to get better quick, and that's what we're going to try."

The six-time French Open champion still plans to begin his clay season April 16 at the Monte Carlo Masters.

Nadal has dealt with knee problems for several years, and his left knee has bothered him since Indian Wells. He lost there to Roger Federer in the semifinals two weeks ago.

Shortly before this year's Australian Open in January, Nadal hurt his right knee while sitting in a chair at his hotel and feared he might miss the tournament. Instead he reached the final, where he lost to Djokovic in a six-hour epic.

Nadal played no tournaments in February to rest his knees. Even then, he said, his left knee bothered him some while training at home in Spain.

Knee problems prevented Nadal from playing at Wimbledon in 2009 ? the only major tournament he has missed since 2006. He retired with knee trouble from a quarterfinal match against Murray at the Australian Open in 2010.

"I try my best in every moment, with pain or without pain," he said. "But when I see the situation is done and I cannot, I cannot."

The 10-time Grand Slam champion had hoped to claim his first Key Biscayne title. His withdrawal left the tournament without a singles match for the afternoon session.

"I am very sorry for the fans," Nadal said. "I'm very sorry for the tournament. I'm very sorry for everybody who was ready to watch the match on the television, for television, for everybody.

"I don't have pleasure. I feel very sad to have to go out before a beautiful match for me ? semifinals against Andy."

The No. 4-seeded Murray has played only seven sets in the tournament, because he also advanced to the third round with a walkover. He'll go into the final with three days' rest but perhaps a bit rusty.

"I don't really know how I'm going to feel," he said, "but I'll definitely be fresh."

A Historical Look at Survival Under Attack | Learn How to be Prepared

3046433946 2d9c7408e9 A Historical Look at Survival Under Attack

Back in the days of the Cold War, the US Government as well as its citizens were apprehensive of a potential nuclear bomb attack from Russia.? To that end, the US Department of Civil Defense was active in issuing all kinds of educational material to the public with the twofold intent of informing citizens how to shelter in the event of a nuclear bomb attack while at the same time assuring them that the likelihood of danger was minimal.? Seems contradictory to me, but then, over the years the government has not changed much and I am certain that then, as now, contradiction was considered ?business as usual?.

A Short History Lesson

Interestingly enough, as I look back, right around 1970 and 1971 and at the beginning of my career, I actually worked at a decommissioned Nike missile base in Bothell, Washington (near Seattle).? The underground building had been converted in to a bunkered office for the then-called Office of Emergency Preparedness.? It was one of six similar centers built during the late 1960s.? The structure itself was totally subterranean and it was designed to be reasonably survivable in the event of natural or man-made disasters.? (It now serves as the Region Eight headquarters for FEMA.)6869744078 7b10d5788a A Historical Look at Survival Under Attack

The missile?s housed in Bothell were the Nike Hercules.? These nuclear-tipped anti-aircraft missiles were intended to protect Seattle and environs from Soviet bombers, should war break out. They were removed in 1974.

Today I am sharing with you some of the materials that were published by the Office of Civil Defense during the cold war era.? Depending on your perspective, you may consider the materials to be educational, humorous, silly or simply another instance of control seeking propaganda.? Regardless of how you feel about it, I find the materials to be a fascinating glimpse in to our not so distant history.

So sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.

Survival Under Atomic Attack:? The Book

Survival Under Atomic Attack was the title of a booklet issued by the Civil Defense Office in 1950.? It consisted of 32 pages including four pages in the center of the booklet that we designed to be removed and used as a quick reference.? The exact words were:? ?Remove this sheet and keep it with you until you?ve memorized it.?

KILL THE MYTHS

ATOMIC WEAPONS WILL NOT DESTROY THE EARTH
Atomic bombs hold more death and destruction than man ever before has wrapped up in a single package, but their over-all power still has very definite limits. Not even hydrogen bombs will blow the earth apart or kill us all by radioactivity.

DOUBLING BOMB POWER DOES NOT DOUBLE DESTRUCTION
Modern A-bombs can cause heavy damage 2 miles away, but doubling their power would extend that range only to 2.5 miles. To stretch the damage range from 2 to 4 miles would require a weapon more than 8 times the rated power of present models.

RADIOACTIVITY IS NOT THE BOMB?S GREATEST THREAT
In most atom raids, blast and heat are by far the greatest dangers that people must face. Radioactivity alone would account for only a small percentage of all human deaths and injuries, except in underground or underwater explosions.

RADIATION SICKNESS IS NOT ALWAYS FATAL
In small amounts, radioactivity seldom is harmful. Even when serious radiation sickness follows a heavy dosage, there is still a good chance for recovery.

Six Survival Secrets For Atomic Attacks

1. Try To Get Shielded
If you have time, get down in a basement or subway. Should you unexpectedly be caught out-of-doors, seek shelter alongside a building, or jump in any handy ditch or gutter.

2. Drop Flat On Ground Or Floor
To keep from being tossed about and to lessen the chances of being struck by falling and flying objects, flatten out at the base of a wall, or at the bottom of a bank.

3. Bury Your Face In Your Arms
When you drop flat, hide your eyes in the crook of your elbow. That will protect your face from flash burns, prevent temporary blindness and keep flying objects out of your eyes.

4. Don?t Rush Outside Right After A Bombing
After an air burst, wait a few minutes then go help to fight fires. After other kinds of bursts wait at least 1 hour to give lingering radiation some chance to die down.

5. Don?t Take Chances With Food Or Water In Open Containers
To prevent radioactive poisoning or disease, select your food and water with care. When there is reason to believe they may be contaminated, stick to canned and bottled things if possible.

6. Don?t Start Rumors
In the confusion that follows a bombing, a single rumor might touch off a panic that could cost your life.

Five Keys To Household Safety

1. Strive For ?Fireproof Housekeeping?
Don?t let trash pile up, and keep waste paper in covered containers. When an alert sounds, do all you can to eliminate sparks by shutting off the oil burner and covering all open flames.

2. Know Your Own Home
Know which is the safest part of your cellar, learn how to turn off your oil burner and what to do about utilities.

3. Have Emergency Equipment And Supplies Handy
Always have a good flashlight, a radio, first-aid equipment and a supply of canned goods in the house.

4. Close All Windows And Doors And Draw The Blinds
If you have time when an alert sounds, close the house up tight in order to keep out fire sparks and radioactive dusts and to lessen the chances of being cut by flying glass. Keep the house closed until all danger is past.

5. Use the Telephone Only For True Emergencies
Do not use the phone unless absolutely necessary. Leave the lines open for real emergency

Survival Under Atomic Attack: The Movie

There is more.? In 1950, The Office of Civil Defense also prepared a short movie in 1950 explaining the dangers of the atomic bomb, the effects of radiation and how to protect oneself if caught in the open or in the home. The movie is, of course, in the public domain so don?t get suckered into buying it when you can view it online or download it for free.

You can also download the movie Survival Under Attack Movie here (check out the download options the left part of the screen.)

The Final Word

As cynical as I tend to be these days, I find that some of the information ? though dated ? is still valid.? Yes, some seems kind of silly and misinformed given what we know now.? But still, the slice of history represented in the book and the movie are significant to understanding that back in the day, preparedness was alive and well, albeit misguided by today?s standards.

In closing, I have one more short clip to share.? As you listen, keep in mind that his was produced in 1961.? So perhaps we are not the first generation to prep . . . and also not the first to have a bit of fun!

Enjoy your next adventure through common sense and thoughtful preparation!

Researchers identify genetic markers of drug sensitivity in cancer cells

In the largest study of its kind, researchers have profiled genetic changes in cancer with drug sensitivity in order to develop a personalised approach to cancer treatments. The study is published in Nature on Thursday 29 March 2012.

The team uncovered hundreds of associations between mutations in cancer genes and sensitivity to anticancer drugs. One of the key responses the team found was that cells from a childhood bone cancer, Ewing's sarcoma, respond to a drug that is currently used in the treatment of breast and ovarian cancers. The lowered toxicity of this treatment may mean it is a safer alternative therapy for children and young adults with this aggressive cancer.

There is an intimate relationship between the way a drug works and the genetic changes present in cancers. This study found that sensitivity to most anti-cancer drugs is influenced by mutations in cancer genes and establishes the utility of using large-scale studies to identify these associations and build them into improved patient treatment.

"Our key focus is to find how to use cancer therapeutics in the most effective way by correctly targeting patients that are most likely to respond to a specific therapy," explains Dr Mathew Garnett, first author from the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. "We studied how genetic changes in a panel of >600 cancer cell lines effects responses to 130 anti-cancer drugs, making it the largest study of this type to date."

The team identified biological markers of drug sensitivity to a broad range of cancer drugs. Most of the cancer genes analysed, including those that are not known directs targets of the drugs tested, were associated with either sensitivity or resistance to at least one of the drugs analysed.

"Our research has taken us down unknown paths to find associations that are completely novel," says Dr Cyril Benes, senior author from Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Centre. "We have identified hundreds of associations, many of which we still don't fully understand. We identified a novel indication for the use of PARP inhibitors, anti-cancer drugs currently used to treat breast and ovarian cancers, for the treatment of Ewing's sarcoma."

Ewing's sarcoma is a cancer of children and young adults with a 15% five-year survival rate in patients where the cancer has spread or they have relapsed after chemotherapy. The use of PARP inhibitors could represent a new treatment option for Ewing's sarcoma patients and these compounds will now be tested in clinical trials to assess their therapeutic benefit.

"Advances in next-generation sequencing technologies are already being translated into the large-scale detection of cancer gene mutations in the clinic," says Dr Ultan McDermott, senior author from the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. "There is a compelling need to identify, in a systematic fashion, whether observed mutations affect the likelihood of a patient's response to a given drug treatment. We have therefore developed a unique online open-access resource for the research and medical community that can be used to optimize the clinical application of cancer drugs as well as the design of clinical trials of investigational compounds being developed as treatments."

The team hopes their open-access database will be an important resource for the cancer research community and which will ultimately lead to improved treatments for patients. This research program is a unique Wellcome Trust funded 5-year collaboration between The Cancer Genome Project at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute and the Center for Molecular Therapeutics, Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center.

"Our work is helping to move cancer therapeutics away from the conventional tissue-based treatment to a more molecular-based treatment," says Professor Daniel Haber, senior author from Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Centre. "The next steps for this collaborative project are to evaluate some of the key findings using tumour samples and test new candidate therapeutic strategies in clinical trials so we can hopefully improve the way we treat cancer patients. We are continuing our screening effort, in particular using drug combinations to discover innovative and better therapeutic options."

Witness: Zimmerman 'never ... tried to help'?Martin

By NBC News, msnbc.com staff and news services

A woman who says she and her roommate witnessed the final moments of Trayvon Martin's life told Dateline NBC that George Zimmerman had "his hands pressed on his back" and "never turned him over or tried to help him."

Zimmerman's lawyer, when shown part of the interview being aired Sunday night on Dateline, emphasized that his client would be claiming self-defense.

"I think there were efforts made?to render aid to Trayvon," Craig Sonner told NBC's TODAY show.

Mary Cutcher told Dateline that she and her roommate both saw Zimmerman "straddling?the body, basically a foot on both sides of Trayvon's body, and his hands pressed on his back."

Cutcher added that Zimmerman told her and her roommate to call the police.

"Zimmerman never turned him over or tried to help him or CPR or anything," Cutcher said.

Sonner also reiterated what he had said in recent days, that Zimmerman suffered a broken nose and a gash to the back of his head.

Ben Crump, a Martin family attorney, told NBC News that Sonner was "blaming the victim."

?"Its real simple, if George Zimmerman had done what a neighborhood watchman is supposed to do -- watch -- Trayvon Martin would be alive today," he added.

"Trayvon Martin does not have to identify himself to a stranger," he noted. "George Zimmerman never identified who he was to Trayvon." "If he (Zimmerman) doesn't get out of the car ... if he doesn't act as if he's the police, none of this happens."

A friend of Zimmerman's who appeared on TODAY with Sonner added that Zimmerman, 28,?was distraught over the teen's death.

"Right after the shooting he couldn't stop crying," said?Joe Oliver, who is African American and a former TV reporter and anchor in Orlando.

Zimmerman has not been charged in the Feb. 26 shooting that has ignited racial tensions and raised questions about the Sanford police's handling of the case. Martin was black, and Zimmerman's father is white and his mother is Hispanic.

In a separate interview Sunday, Oliver said that "I'm a black male and all that I know is that George has never given me any reason whatsoever to believe he has anything against people of color.''

In light of the Trayvon Martin incident, a Meet the Press roundtable breaks down violence by citizens against blacks in America.

On Saturday, Sonner said he believes evidence will show that Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law was properly applied.

"Is George a racist? The answer is no, absolutely not. He's not a racist," Sonner said about his client. "The incident that transpired is not racially motivated or a hate crime in any way. It was self-defense."

Sonner said he's spoken with several of Zimmerman's friends, including some who are African American. "They only have good things to say about him," Sonner said.

They're reluctant to come forward, though, because they fear that the backlash over the investigation will make them and their families targets, too, Sonner said.

Sonner declined to detail what transpired between Zimmerman and the 17-year-old Martin, who was unarmed, but he said he believes the case falls under Florida's stand-your-ground law, which dictates that a person has the right to stand his or her ground and "meet force with force" if attacked.

"I believe what the evidence will show is that this case does fall under that," Sonner said. "I believe we have a good case."

If charges are brought against his client, Zimmerman would be willing to turn himself in to police, Sonner said. "We will follow the law," Sonner said.

Sonner would not say where Zimmerman was.?

White House adviser David Plouffe discusses President Obama's conversations on the Trayvon Martin case.

Amid the outcry over the lack of charges against Zimmerman, the Sanford police chief and state's attorney in the case have both stepped aside.

The U.S. Justice Department has opened a civil rights probe into the shooting, and a grand jury is scheduled to meet April 10 to consider evidence in the case.

Daryl Parks, another Martin family attorney, said federal officials and local officials met with the teen's family Thursday and gave them "a strong sense that (the Department of) Justice was very committed" to investigating the case.

Indeed, President Barack Obama weighed in Friday, calling the shooting a tragedy and saying, "When I think about this boy, I think about my own kids."

But Parks added "it was clear from Justice's statements that charges of a hate crime are going to be a challenge."

Parks also said the Florida Department of Law Enforcement has told the family's legal team that they know Zimmerman's whereabouts, but that it was not clear whether they are offering protection to Zimmerman, who has been in hiding and has received death threats in recent weeks.

Martin's parents also met Friday with the newly-appointed special prosecutor in the case, and the family's legal team plans to pursue a civil case against the Twin Lakes homeowner's association, Parks said.

About 400 people rallied Saturday in downtown Chicago to protest Martin's killing. In a racially divided city beset by shootings, gang violence and run-ins with police, the teen's death brought to mind the 1955 slaying of Emmitt Till, a 14-year-old black boy from Chicago who was shot and bludgeoned to death while visiting Mississippi for supposedly whistling at a white woman. His body was found in the Tallahatchie River.

No one was ever convicted, but Till's killing galvanized the civil rights movement.

"It's a precedent that with the right excuse it's OK to gun down black males," protester Ashten Fizer said of Martin's killing. "It's a return of Jim Crow."

In Washington, D.C., a large crowd gathered in Freedom Plaza to call for justice in the shooting.

Among the demonstrators Saturday was Jimmy Neal, a District of Columbia resident who said his daughter has been asking him questions he didn't want to answer.

People gather at a "Stand Up for Trayvon Martin" rally in Washington, D.C., on Saturday.

"She's asked me the question ... 'Why, daddy, when he was carrying candy and a soda or iced tea and why did the man kill him?' I had to explain that to her. And those are discussions you don't plan to have with your kids," Neal said.

"Hoodie Marches" were organized Saturday in two South Carolina cities over social media. Many of the people participating carried bags of Skittles and wore hooded sweat shirts, like the one Martin wore when he was killed.

Martin was holding a bag of the candy while walking to his father's fianc?e's home from a convenience store when Zimmerman started following him, telling police dispatchers he looked suspicious. At some point, the two got into a fight in the gated community and Zimmerman pulled out his gun.

Zimmerman dropped out of public view shortly after the shooting and his whereabouts were unknown. The New Black Panther Party, an African American organization taking its name from the radical group of the 1960s, has placed a $10,000 bounty on Zimmerman.

"All these people who are threatening George, what makes them any better than the person they think he is?'' Oliver said. "You've got all these people wanting to lynch the man and they don't know the whole story.''

NBC's Ron Allen as well as The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to this report.
