WASHINGTON (AP) ? This is K Street on steroids.

South Carolinians will be celebrating President Barack Obama's inauguration with cocktails amid the Hope Diamond and dinosaur fossils at the Smithsonian's Museum of Natural History. Minority government contractors will huddle at a downtown restaurant known as a lobbyists' hotspot. And the nation's largest gay rights group is promising a star-studded night at the storied Mayflower Hotel.

And these aren't even officially part of the inaugural.

With ticket costs reaching into five figures for some of these events ? and free for the coveted VIPs, of course ? the sideline events throughout inauguration weekend are the big draws for advocates and lobbyists looking to rub elbows with lawmakers and administration officials. The events at restaurants and hotels, museums and mansions are opportunities for anyone willing to write a check to turn a night out into a chance to build a Rolodex of Washington's powerbrokers.

On the surface, there is nothing nefarious about such celebrations, which are largely sponsored by industry groups or special interests. But access to these movers and shakers is only the swipe of a credit card away; the powerful, similarly, will want to be seen with the right people.

Some groups, such as the State Society of South Carolina, say they simply want to celebrate Obama's next four years in power and sip bubbly while huddled inside the Smithsonian. Others, such as the National Association of Minority Government Contractors, want to highlight their work in Washington ? all while hanging in deep booths at Tuscana West, a restaurant that doubles as the de facto cafeteria for Washington's K Street lobbying corridor. And the Human Rights Campaign is looking to take a victory lap after its gay and lesbian members helped fund and fulfill Obama's re-election.

"The ball is always an excellent opportunity for the people of South Carolina to come together to celebrate the newly elected president and to showcase the beauty, importance and success of our great state," said Robin Muthig, the chair of the South Carolina ball and a former aide to Republican Rep. Gresham Barrett. Muthig started planning the occasion well before a White House winner was declared.

Every four years, these events highlight the booming influence trade in Washington. For a couple hundred dollars, anyone can pay his way into increasingly over-the-top public parties inside some of Washington's favorite destinations. And other invitations allow interest groups to pack hotel ballrooms with people with whom they want to connect.

Take for instance the Indiaspora Ball, highlighting Indian culture. Hosts include Neera Tanden, a former top Obama and Clinton administration policy official who now serves as president of the liberal Center for American Progress; failed congressional hopeful Raj Goyle of Kansas; and Sonal Shah, who worked both for Google's philanthropic arm and Obama's White House Office of Social Innovation and Civic Participation. Tickets to that event at the Mandarin Oriental hotel start at $250, and $1,000 VIP tickets promise "exclusive benefits and special guest access."

Or look to the U.S. Virgin Islands Friendship Inaugural Ball. For $100 guests can mingle with the islands' nonvoting member of Congress, Donna Marie Christensen. Ticket prices climb to $10,000 for "four-star sponsors."

Consider the Hip-Hop Inaugural Ball. Tickets start at $250, and VIP access comes with $2,500 to join music mogul Russell Simmons' gala just five blocks from the National Mall. Or the Peace Ball, with tickets starting at $135 and a guest list that includes Obama's former green jobs czar Van Jones. Or the Green Ball, hosted by Bill Stetson, a member of the President's Advisory Committee on the Arts and husband of Jane Watson Stetson, the Democratic National Committee's finance chairwoman.

These events are separate from the official ceremony at the Capitol on Jan. 21 and its scaled-back, two-ball celebration that evening. But even the official events now allow wide-open corporate money, a reversal from four years ago.

For Obama's first inaugural celebration, there were some 285 events packed with supporters and courters, according to the Sunlight Foundation, a pro-transparency group that tracks such events. So far, the number of this year's events is just a fifth that size, reflecting the dimmed enthusiasm for the second term and the slow-to-recover economy. And unlike four years ago, there is not a raft of lawmakers leaving Congress or state houses to join the Cabinet.

But that isn't to say these parties' place in official Washington has shrunk. With many administration officials eyeing an exit to the private sector and many on the outside looking for a way in, these black-tie events often double as an informal job fair.

Eyes-on with 3D System's CubeX and next-generation Cube (Update: video)

Eyeson with 3D System's CubeX and nextgeneration Cube

3D Systems isn't exactly new to the consumer 3D printing space, but its history lies in professional additive manufacturing. Its machines have found homes around the globe in high profile businesses like Boeing. That hasn't stopped the company from rolling out a pair of impressive home options at CES. The company's CEO Avi Reichental stopped by our stage chat for a while and let us play with the two new devices, the CubeX and the second-generation Cube.

The Cube X is a rather beastly device. While technically it might able to sit on a desk, we wouldn't exactly call it a desktop printer. The 1,030 cubic inch-build platform is large enough print a basketball, though, one that wouldn't bounce very high. Such a build would take quite a long time however, with the lower 500 micron resolution taking up to 12 hours to spit out. If you bumped it up to 125 microns an easily breakable sphere would be yours in about 24 hours. Still, that's quite a bit faster than some printers out there, and it can accomplish the feat in three colors -- something no other consumer model we've seen is capable of. Even though we've seen high resolutions out of machines like the Replicator 2, the difference 25 microns makes is practically indistinguishable. Everything from chain mail to mugs are within reach. Rather impressively, just like its little brother, the CubeX relies on cartridges instead of spools for dispensing plastic -- either ABS or PLA. 3D Systems even calls them "smart cartridges" since it can distinguish between the two plastics and adjust the properties accordingly.

Mitts on with the almighty Android oven

Android Oven

Android Central @ CES

Forget Tegra 4 and its its 72 GPUs. Forget NVIDIA's Project Shield handheld gaming console. Hell, forget Sony's beautiful 4K televisions and its also-impressive new Xperia Z smarpthone. No, this is what everyone's buzzing about here at CES in beautiful Las Vegas, where dreams are made, fortunes are won and lost.

The Android oven.

Yes. It's an oven. That you cook food in. And it's running Android. Not for the heat, mind you. That's silly. It's a relatively normal (if stylish) convection oven, just like mom uses to make your banana bread. (I've had your mom's banana bread, and it's great.) Only, yeah. This one's got an Android brain inside it that, well, runs Android. It'll run Android apps, yeah, but the real purpose for all this is that it'll walk you through the cooking process, and send you alerts when it's time to baste the turkey. That's pretty much what connected devices have done for the past year, but this one's making all the noise this week here in Vegas. So there.

We've got some video after the break for you Android-oven-loving fans out there. Namaste.

Hands-on with NVIDIA's first game console, Project Shield - Engadget

NVIDIA surprised the world last night by transitioning from hardware component manufacturer to game console manufacturer in one fell swoop, introducing the world to its portable game console, Project Shield. A 5-inch "retinal" HD multitouch display sitting atop a full-on game controller that resembles a blend of the Xbox 360 gamepad's curves and the PlayStation 3 DualShock 3's unfortunate analog stick placement, all powered by the newly revealed Tegra 4 quad-core cortex A15 processor. The console's set to ship in Q2 2013, and it promises stunning graphics for the Android games it's made to run, as well as a direct streaming option employing NVIDIA's GeForce Experience application. That means not just Android games, but also full-on PC games, with built-in Steam Big Picture Mode integration. It is, frankly, an impressive package. But the proof's in the pudding, right?

We got our first chance to go hands-on with the device this morning -- our first hands-on with any Tegra 4 device, mind you -- and came away impressed. Beyond being a speedy handheld, the 5-inch LED makes high-def PC games look even more visually stunning. Sheer pixel density alone meant that our test run of Need for Speed: Most Wanted looked even better on Project Shield than it did on the PC running it. More importantly, there was zero perceptible lag.

As for controls, Shield is a bit on the unwieldy side of things. In an effort to make the screen foldable, clamshell-style, with the full gamepad underneath, the analog sticks are sunk into the body. While it didn't make any of the games we tried unplayable, it did feel a bit less comfy than, say, an Xbox 360 controller. The DualShock 3-esque placement of those analog sticks isn't helping either, but sadly that doesn't look like it's changing -- the sticks are where they are for function's sake.

NVIDIA Project SHIELD hands-on

The Shields we used were running Android's latest firmware, Jelly Bean 4.2.1, and appears to be a mostly stock version of the OS. There's of course the inclusion of Tegrazone, as well as the Shield app (which facilitates PC game streaming and acts as a hub for games on the device), but it was otherwise pretty standard. That said, with a Q2 2013 expected, that OS could change dramatically. We were able to quickly and easily swap from a high-def PC game to the internet browser without any issues, and back again. Switching between PC games is a bit more trouble, requiring you to quit out before swapping to another -- a failsafe to make sure you don't accidentally kill your save file, but an unfortunate one for ease of use. Android gaming is a bit more fluid, operating ... well, like an Android device. The boxing title featured during last night's pre-CES keynote looked just as good as it did yesterday, though admittedly nowhere near as impressive as the PC game streaming.

All in all, while there are still some minor tweaks we'd like to see on Project Shield before it becomes a reality, the device felt solid, looked great, and sounded just as good. The speakers are, if anything, overbearingly loud (that's a good thing), and the screen is far more beautiful than we were expecting. If the price is right, we could very much see this becoming our go-to gaming handheld at home. For now, all we know about that is that it won't be in line with the subsidized console market. "There's a lot of tech in there," an NVIDIA rep told us, pointing out the device's many functions. While that statement's a bit worrying, we'll reserve our trepidation for the actual price, which we should know sooner than later.

The Secret iPad List to Bring Down Boehener

When the failed House Republican revolution came, it came by iPad. Now that House Speaker John Boehner has survived the rebellion, all of D.C. now knows which conservative House members were conspiring to mount a challenge, thanks to a list that one of the coup's leaders brandished on the House floor during the vote.

RELATED: United Nation Fights the 'Asshole Factor'

A Politico photographer captured Rep. Tim Huelskamp of Kansas (pictured above), who Boehner had removed from a committee for refusing to cooperate,?tapping his iPad during the roll call, checking off a list of names of other Congressmen he thought might join him in voting against Boehner. The list was titled, appropriately, "You would be fired if this goes out,"?Politico's Jake Sherman and John Bresnahan report. They hedge, "It?s not clear that any of the Republicans on Huelskamp?s list knew they were on it, or even knew of the list?s existence," but let's look at who were at least?expected to vote against Boehner:

RELATED: Boehner Puts Down House Republican Coup

  • Steve King of Iowa
  • Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming
  • Paul Gosar of Arizona
  • Scott Garrett of New Jersey
  • Steve Fincher of Tennessee
  • Scott Desjarlais of Tennessee

Earlier this week, outgoing Louisiana Rep. Jeff Landry bragged to Breitbart News that the anti-Boehner ranks were 17 to 20 members strong, though in the end, only nine voted against their speaker, while two didn't vote, and one voted present. Breitbart's Matthew Boyle reports on Friday that there were several more names on Huelskamp's list:

RELATED: Boehner Was Afraid Issa Would Go Full Pumpkin-Shooter on His Holder Probe

  • Jeff Duncan of South Carolina
  • Mo Brooks of Alabama
  • Sam Graves of Missouri
  • Steve Southerland of Florida
  • Trey Gowdy of South Carolina
  • David Schweikert of Arizona
  • Tom Cotton of Arkansas
  • Brett Guthrie of Kentucky

Perhaps Huelskamp anticipated some would chicken out, since if some poor aide risked being "fired" for the list getting out, surely a House member might fear the wrath of Boehner for actually voting against him.

Andy Reid, Chiefs Agree To 5-Year Deal

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Andy Reid didn't have to wait long to find a fresh start.

The longtime coach of the Eagles landed in Kansas City on Friday, signing a contract with the Chiefs just four days after he was fired by Philadelphia following 14 mostly successful seasons.

Reid's contract is for five years, a person familiar with the terms told The Associated Press. Reid also began to assemble his coaching staff, the person said on condition of anonymity because those details were not made public.

The Chiefs have scheduled an introductory news conference for Monday.

Reid's agreement was finalized shortly after the Chiefs parted ways with general manager Scott Pioli, whose four tumultuous seasons ended with a brief statement issued by the team.

It's expected that Reid will pursue longtime Packers personnel man John Dorsey or former Browns GM Tom Heckert ? or perhaps both of them ? to work with him in the front office.

Reid inherits a team that went 2-14, matching the worst record in franchise history. But he'll also have the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft, and with five players voted to the Pro Bowl this season, Kansas City has building blocks in place to make a quick turnaround.

"Overall the job is still attractive," Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt told the AP earlier this week. "The franchise remains very well respected."

Hunt promised to be thorough and efficient in finding a replacement for Romeo Crennel, who was fired Monday after one full season. The Chiefs interviewed Atlanta assistants Dirk Koetter and Keith Armstrong on Tuesday before flying to Philadelphia and meeting with Reid.

Nine hours of negotiations Wednesday went well enough that Reid called off interviews in Arizona and San Diego, and the two sides continued working out details Thursday.

When news broke that Pioli was out, Reid's agreement quickly followed.

Neither the Chiefs nor Reid issued a statement Friday ? the team posted a short video that mentioned the hiring ? but Eagles chief executive Jeffrey Lurie offered his "congratulations to Clark Hunt for hiring a good man and a good coach."

"Congrats Big Red on taking your talents to KC," former Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb tweeted. "Big Red fans get ready to cheer on your new boss and new team from 2013 and on."

Reid arrived in Kansas City aboard a chartered jet Friday afternoon and drove with Hunt and other Chiefs officials to Arrowhead Stadium. He later visited the team's training complex while the final details on his contract were being worked out.

Reid will be getting a fresh start after enduring a difficult season on the field and away from it. His oldest son, Garrett, died during training camp after a battle with drug addiction, and then the Eagles ? expected to contend for a division title ? scuffled to a 4-12 finish.

Reid was fired by Lurie on Monday.

Long considered one of the NFL's bright offensive minds, Reid had a record of 130-93-1 in Philadelphia. He took a team that was 3-13 the year before his arrival and, in the space of only two years, finished 11-5 and second in the NFC East. That began a stretch of five straight years in which Reid won at least 11 games, including one trip to the Super Bowl.

During his tenure, the Eagles made nine playoff appearances while Kansas City made three, and won 10 playoff games ? Kansas City hasn't won any since 1993. Meanwhile, the Chiefs went through five head coaches and are now on their third in three years.

One of Hunt's priorities was to find a coach who would bring stability to the franchise.

That's a big reason why Hunt decided to change the Chiefs' organizational structure, with the coach and general manager now reporting directly to him. Since his late father Lamar Hunt founded the team 53 years ago, the coach typically reported to the general manager.

That was the way it was under Pioli, whose two coaching hires ended badly.

That alone wasn't enough to force Pioli out, though. It was a combination of poor draft choices, ineffective free-agent moves and a growing fan rebellion that led the Chiefs to issue a statement Friday that said they had "mutually parted ways" with their general manager.

"There is no way to overstate the level of respect and admiration I have for Scott on a personal level," Hunt said in the statement. "His character, loyalty, integrity and commitment to a team are extraordinary, and throughout the last four years, he has consistently put the best interests of the Chiefs ahead of his own."

Still, those qualities failed to translate to success.

Most of the Chiefs' top stars were drafted by Pioli's predecessor, Carl Peterson. The former Patriots executive struggled to find impact players, particularly at quarterback, while cycling through coaches and fostering a climate of dread within the entire organization.

Numerous longtime staff members were fired upon Pioli's arrival, and his inability to connect with fans resulted in unprecedented unrest. Some of the fans even paid for multiple banners to be towed behind planes before home games asking that he be fired.

On Dec. 1, linebacker Jovan Belcher shot the mother of his 3-month-old daughter, Kasandra Perkins, at a home not far from Arrowhead Stadium. Belcher then drove to the team's practice facility and shot himself in the head as Pioli and Crennel watched in the parking lot.

Pioli hasn't spoken publicly since the incident.

"The bottom line is that I did not accomplish all of what I set out to do," Pioli said in a statement released through by team. "To the Hunt family ? to the great fans of Kansas City ? to the players, all employees and alumni, I truly apologize for not getting the job done."

The three-time NFL executive of the year often spoke of putting together "the right 53," but he failed to do so, and now it falls on Reid and his staff to finish the job.

The most glaring position of need is quarterback.

Matt Cassel has two years left on a $63 million, six-year deal, but he played so poorly this season he was benched in favor of Brady Quinn, who is now a free agent.

It's expected that the Chiefs will pursue a veteran quarterback while also choosing one in the draft, giving Reid options in training camp. Reid has a history of success working with young quarterbacks, including Brett Favre in Green Bay and Donovan McNabb in Philadelphia.

Decisions will also have to be made about left tackle Branden Albert, wide receiver Dwayne Bowe and even Pro Bowl punter Dustin Colquitt, all of whom can become free agents.

In 2012 I learned 5 Major Things About Running A Business ...

2012, was a tough year for me. For many years I have been trying to build a company out of the house, but have failed. I hired many people, but never managed them.

In the beginning of the year I was doing very well from web properties, mailing, and doing pay-per-click for affiliate offers. Then things changed. Affiliate networks dropped like flies, and ppc networks became very strict. My affiliate revenue crashed.

I was not sure what to do. I knew the affiliate game that I had been playing and profiting from for many years was coming to an end.

From the way I looked at it I had 2 choices:

A)Build a real company.

B)Buy out my lease, other contracts, and go back to working out of my house writing my blog. Essentially retiring.

The big turning point for me was when I was talking to one of my best friends in the industry (who also owns a affiliate network). He was telling me about how he had bought a new SEO Company and it was really rough at the start investing in that and not the affiliate industry, but it was one of the best things he ever did.

A couple months before I had this conversation we signed a deal with blu electronic cigarettes to take over their ?customer acquisition and growth? through email. They had been collecting email addresses for a long time, but never sent out any emails other than sale alerts.

Within a couple months we started to account for a very significant portion of their sales that were coming in from emails I had constructed for them. ?The most interesting thing we found was that not only were new customers purchasing their product, but existing customers were purchasing their product through our emails.

Even blu came to us and said what an amazing impact it had on their company and that we should think about just doing this service for companies. However, I never really thought about it.

And that was it ? Par Program was born.

It met my basic screening test:

Was this a badly needed service? ? Yes, anyone who sells a product or service drastically can benefit from the PAR Program.
Is this a service that I would use every day ? ? YES! Forget about what I bring to the table for a minute? The features and level of service of a true enterprise level automated mail marketing service was badly needed.

So, again that?s it. That is what I am doing, and I am going to do this right.

But, it?s obviously not that easy. In order to do this right I needed to get away from the fly by night stuff, which has always brought in an awesome injection of capital when needed. Plus, I had a LOT of overhead still, and to do this right I needed to commit to investing a lot of money carried over from last years profits.

It was very painful to see your monthly financial reports in the red? sometimes tens of thousands of dollars? month after month. Being told we will now profitable? then surprise we lost money again. Sometimes I just felt so demoralized like there was no hope, and I should just quit and take up plan b. I don?t like that feeling.

Fortunately, we were on the right path though and midway through the year we were back in the green monthly and attacking our debt aggressively.

As of December, the PAR Program is now over $50,000 a month in gross revenue. Our overhead is 1/4th (literally) of what it was a year ago.

So, now we are on the right track and it has been an educational experience to say the least.

Here is what I have learned from switching to running a real company:

Talk to smart people with real experience : I was in the Entrepreneurs Organization, and a huge thing they do is allow you to present problems to other business owners. Just to be in the organization you have to be the majority owner, and do over a million a year in revenue. In my group there was a medical delivery company CEO, a printing company CEO, a heavy construction company CEO, a local sandwich franchise owner, and a janitorial service company CEO. I met with these guys all the time, and even though their businesses have nothing to do with the internet, just the learning the basic business structure for me has been priceless. I have routine calls with people that own internet companies and some of them I have weekly calls scheduled. I also pay a couple grand a month to a guy I highly respect to have a one hour conversation with him and my team. He holds my team accountable and even myself. It?s kind of like a business coach, only more like a 1 hour a week CEO. However, the thing is he is a guy that has been a CEO at various internet companies and currently is running his own search marketing agency. So more then just holding me responsible he has my respect when he tells me I am doing it wrong.

Do not underestimate what you bring to a company:?I have been making money selling millions of dollars of my own products/services AND selling other people?s products and services as an affiliate. Now consider this, a company gives 30% or more to a affiliate network to make sales, then the network gives half to an affiliate (formally me). But, now through the PAR Program I am doing this directly for the company and not only is everything 100% off of their plate it?s also much cleaner, insightful, and it delivers a much larger ROI then what they were doing through affiliate networks. Well there is a lot more? copywriting, graphics, marketing insight? I mean I bring 10 years of?invaluable? experience doing this.

ROI on everything: I am not sure why this always escaped me, I am dead serious on this. I never thought of things this way, but one day I came to a revelation that everything I spend money on I need to get a positive return. This actually seems comical given the fact I have been calculating ROI promoting affiliate offers like crazy that I never actually looked at more obvious things.

One of the big things, actually THE biggest was employees. If I am spending 10k a month on an employee what am I getting back? But, this is as much about me as it is any of my employees. Lets say I am worth $500/hr to the company when focused on what I am best at. So, if I can hire 2 full time people to take care of misc things at $15 an hour that not only take up time, but distract me from what I do best then you would have to be an idiot not to do it. Again as crazy as this sounds I would say at least half of my time was being taken up with jobs that I now have interns doing.

Roles and responsibilities: Make a list for each of your employees on what their role and responsibilities should be. Ask them to do the same including exactly what they do day to day. Make them responsible for the job they are doing and the tasks they are responsible for. Do not, under any circumstances, do something that is their task. The problem with knowing how to do everything is that you know how to do everything, and if you?re like me and have no?patience?it?s very very hard to wait for someone to fix an issue that you know you can easily do. But, here is the problem if you fix the issue. It now becomes ?your responsibility. The person who was previously responsible for fixing that issue no longer has ownership of it. You do. When a client goes around their client manager cause its 9pm on a Sunday night, and they know you will be available cause you have no life you need to tell them to go through their client manager. Otherwise guess what? You are now their client manager. When they ask their client manager if I did what I said I would do at 9pm on Sunday she/he will be like um what is this? And like I said you are now their client manager. My point is this ? I am a badass at sales, marketing, and copywriting. Those are my roles and responsibilities. When I do another employee?s job it?s a bad use of my time, costs me money, and undermines my employees.

Getting frustrated:

Getting things done: Read the book. It has changed my life.

Regular short meetings: Another thing that made a huge impact. It?s important to meet everyday for a few minutes. Everyone tells me where they are at on the projects they are working on. If time lines have changed, over/under budget, ?and if they need any help. I try to limit each person to 5 interrupted minutes. Someone will take detailed notes especially if someone needs help.

Now don?t get me wrong? Sometimes I can?t help but promote the occasional affiliate offer or try some new angle on something. But it?s more like a hobby to me.

I also planned for a slow January this month so, I am releasing the book (hopefully on the 7th or 8th FINALLY). I am doing Affiliate Summit, will be home for a day (1 day) and then going to Hawaii with my wife for 10 days. So, between January 12th and 31st I will be home 5 total days.

I have had an agency approach me about shooting an infomercial, which I am still not sure about? but basically I don?t have to do anything but film. I also have a smaller product that will be coming out this month.

But, for the most part 99% of my day is focused on the PAR Program.

I went through some hard times, recovered, and refocused in 2012. I look forward to a much more organized, focused, and profitable 2013.

Cheers!

The Ubuntu phone's time, if ever, is now - not in 2014

Ubuntu

Canonical has been buzzing in our ears about Ubuntu as a mobile device operating system for a while now. We've seen them tout integrating a solution into Android for a year, and before that they had plans for their own mobile version of Ubuntu that more than a few Linux geeks were following. Today they came full circle and showed off a native OS on an Android phone, getting some of us pumped for the "next big thing."

But with yet another announcement without a single flashable image, will Ubuntu OS even have a chance?

Let's discuss the pros and cons, and see why 2014 might be too late for any success for Canonical. Read on.

Saudis flee dry kingdom to Bahrain for New Year

(AP) ? Residents of Saudi Arabia, where booze and New Year's celebrations are banned, flooded into neighboring Bahrain in search of festivities to ring in 2013.

More than 80,000 cars crossed a causeway over the Gulf to Bahrain Monday night to celebrate New Year's Eve, the Saudi newspaper Al-Youm reported on Tuesday. Saudi Arabia adheres to a strict interpretation of Islam and bans alcohol as well as celebrations of Christmas and New Year's Eve. It also prohibits unrelated men and women from mingling.

Saudis and foreign residents of the oil-rich kingdom frequently take the half-hour drive across the causeway to Bahrain on weekends, filling bars, movie theaters and hotels in the capital Manama. Some conservative Bahraini lawmakers, however, want the government to ban alcohol and close nightclubs.

Al-Youm said a few hours before midnight, the line of cars waiting to cross King Fahd bridge stretched for a half-mile with traffic police, security and passport officers out in force to keep the revelers flowing.
